Kellie was elected to the NI Assembly in May 2016. Kellie is designated as ‘United Community’ and represents constituents on a cross community basis.
Prior to becoming an MLA Kellie held senior management positions in the community and voluntary sector for over 16 years. For the last 10 years she was the Northern Ireland Director of the Community Transport Association, a charitable organisation delivering accessible, community led transport solutions for older people, children and people with disabilities across Northern Ireland.
Kellie’s main area of expertise is strategic business planning with financial budgeting and management controls. Kellie has supported a number of community businesses to achieve their objectives through the development of social enterprise.
Kellie sat on the DHSSPSNI’s Vetting and Barring Community & Voluntary Sector Group and was the lead signatory for CTA’s AccessNI Umbrella Body which manages the DBS processes across the UK. Kellie provides training and advice for organisations and individuals working with vulnerable adults and/or children.
Kellie is a qualified bereavement councillor and has worked in a voluntary capacity with Cruise to support parents and children through loss and grief. Kellie has been a part time carer for her disabled brother for the past 25 years. Kellie also held the role of both Disability and Older Person’s Champion for the Ards and North Down region from 2013 to 2016.
