Rachel, aged 6 has been in the care of her aunt, Danielle for just over 5 years. Danielle took on the care of Rachel because she didn’t want her taken into care.
Rachel has two older siblings who are being cared for by another family member. Rachel shares a very special relationship with Danielle who helps her understand why her mum and dad are not around to look after her.
Danielle received a small grant through our Kinnections Project to support her in the care and upbringing of Rachel. Danielle used her grant to decorate Rachel’s bedroom so she would feel at home and to purchase books and educational toys to assist Rachel with her reading.
Rachel is well settled and excelling at school. She especially likes art, music and playing rounders. Rachel has completed a 6 week CMAC Academy Drama Programme, a 6 week Memory Box Programme and a 4 week LifeStory Programme. Danielle attends our monthly Kin Together Support Group in Belfast and has completed several courses, including Mindset Training, Paediatric First Aid and Mood Matters.
Rachel says she wants to be a doctor or a pop singer when she grows up.
