£219,045.98 for kinship carers and their children

Kinship Care NI have secured £219,045.98 in social security benefit and financial support for kinship carers and their children in the last 20 months.

The ‘Caring for Kin’ Project offers a free telephone helpline service as well as advice, information and training to grandparents raising their grandchildren and other kinship carers who are raising children of their extended family.

Staff member Michelle, a qualified solicitor specialising in family law ensures kinship carers are aware of and receiving their full entitlement to financial support for the children in their care. Financial support includes Child Benefit, Child Tax Credit, Guardian’s Allowances, Residence Allowances, Foster Care Allowances and Pension Credit.

Across Northern Ireland, over 8,600 children are being raised by family members and friends because they cannot be cared for by their own parents. Children in kinship care are twice as likely to live in poverty compared to children living with their own parents and many kinship carers struggle to afford the most basic necessities for the children in their care.

We are absolutely delighted we are making a difference to kinship carers and their children by helping take children in kinship care out of poverty and keeping families together.

Take on a Challenge

Sign up to do something that will stretch you to your limits. Be that a sporting challenge (like a marathon), a walking or biking challenge or something even more adventurous (a skydive?!). Ask your friends and family to sponsor you in aid of Kinship Care NI.

Hold a Fundraising Event

Organise a fundraising event, like a Coffee Morning or a BBQ and invite all your friends and family.
