23 young people in kinship care won Business and Entrepreneurship, Courage, Leadership and Volunteering Awards as part of the Derry Credit Union Young People’s Awards.
Young People in Kinship Care Win Awards Galore
Young people in kinship care won a range of awards at a special ceremony at the City Hotel in Derry/Londonderry as part of the Derry Credit Union Young People’s Awards.
Caomihe, Clionagh, Jessica, Isabella and Molly (aka the MiniKins) won a Business and Entrepreneurship Award for the design, publication and sale of their ‘DinDins by MiniKins’ Recipe Book while ‘Youth Champions’, Teagan, Toni, Cillian, Stephen, Darragh, Chantelle, Tiernan, Cathal, Ciarnan, Shantell and Caoimhin won a Leadership Award for sharing their own personal journeys and helping make life better for other young people in kinship care.
Stephen, Megan, Siya, Kelly, Colm and Aaron won a ‘Courage Award’ and Kayla came runner up and received a Volunteer Award.
Young people were nominated by Michelle Gildernew MP and Karen Grace at Cafe Soul.
Speaking after the event Leona McMenamin, Service Manager said ‘What an achievement for young people in kinship care and their carers. We can’t thank everyone enough for nominating young people and supporting our work with children and young people in kinship care. Young people went home feeling extremely proud of themselves and so too did everyone here at Kinship Care NI.”
