We are an award winning charity that helps and supports kinship carers and their children in Northern Ireland.

Supporting kinship carers and the children they care for so they can make sense of what is happening in their lives does not require a whole load of money.

Kinship carers need a friendly face and someone to share an hour of their time over a cup of tea, others need more intensive support – particularly grandparent carers and young sibling carers. Children and young people need both individual and group support – from helping them understand why their mum or dad cannot care for them, to supporting them develop friendships with other children in the same position as them.

There are a million reasons why kinship care matters to our children and their carers. Here are 101 of them for you all to enjoy.

Our mission is to support children who cannot be cared for by their own parents to live safely and securely within their own families and communities.

It is our vision that every child and young person in kinship care will have access to the services and support they need to lead happy and successful lives.

We aim to lead the way in the development of kinship care practice by responding to and participating in empirical based research and to be the organisation people choose to support them throughout their lives.

Aims and Objectives

  • To promote kinship care as the primary care arrangement for children who cannot be cared for by their own parents.
  • To support children without parental care to live safely and securely within their own families and communities.
  • To build the confidence, self-esteem and resilience of kinship carers and the children they care for.
  • To build a network of support for kinship carers and their children across Northern Ireland.

What is Kinship Care?

Kinship Care is an arrangement where a child who cannot be cared for by their parents goes to live with a relative or family friend.

Who is a Kinship Carer?

Anyone who is significant to the child and who the child lives with and is cared for by. This includes grandparents, aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters and family friends.

Stop By and Say Hello

Come and visit us. Meet our staff, volunteers and the children and families we support. We make the best cup of tea ever!

Take on a Challenge

Sign up to do something that will stretch you to your limits. Be that a sporting challenge (like a marathon), a walking or biking challenge or something even more adventurous (a skydive?!). Ask your friends and family to sponsor you in aid of Kinship Care NI.

Hold a Fundraising Event

Organise a fundraising event, like a Coffee Morning or a BBQ and invite all your friends and family.

Leave a Legacy

By remembering Kinship Care NI in your Will, you will be leaving behind a legacy that will make a real difference to children and young people in kinship care. You can also specify how you would like your gift to be used.

Payroll Giving

Setting up a donation through your pay is simple. However you are paid - whether monthly, weekly or every four weeks – you can give to Kinship Care NI in a tax effective way through your pay. A donation to Kinship Care NI each pay day will enable us to deliver more programmes and activities to children and young people.
